Google launched the Android P developer preview today and among other changes like new transition animations and layout changes, the new version of Android comes with a slightly redesigned Android P launcher.

The new Android P launcher has almost the same design as the one which came with Android Oreo 8.0 except that now the dock has a semi transparent grey coloured background to distinguish the icons and the search bar from the rest of the screen.

While this change is not that significant in terms of functionality nor in terms of visual, it still helps to distinguish the dock icons from the remaining icons on your home screen which makes it a worthwhile change.

However, since it is the first developer preview of Android P, we cannot be sure that this change would make it to the final release of the Android version. So, if you want to try out this new Android P launcher on your device you can download the Android P launcher APK from here.

If this is the first time you are installing an APK file on your phone, you may have to go to your Settings->Security->Unknown sources and enable that option to install the file.

Once the installation is complete, just click your home button and then your device would ask you to select your default launcher. Select the newly installed Android P launcher from the options and it would set as default.
