Google, a few months back, announced Instant Apps for Android on the Google I/O 2017. Instant apps are like normal Android apps with all the essential features and functionality, but instead of downloading and installing like normal apps, you can use them without installing.

After a while, Instant Apps feature is now finally rolling out and Google has reported that it has already reached over 500 Million Android devices.
So, if you are using the latest version of Google Play Services and if your phone is running Android Marshmallow 6.0 and above, then you try the Instant Apps right now.
As of now, only a total of around 50 Android apps support this Instant Apps feature and some of them Include popular apps like Buzzfeed, The Weather Channel, Musixmatch, Wish and more.
The major advantage of Instant apps is that they do not keep running on the background constantly draining your battery and affecting the performance. Instead they can be used only when you want them and since they do not require any installation, it saves both your storage space and your valuable data.
The best thing is that, you can create a homescreen shortcuts for these apps and can easily launch them from your launcher without having to open your web browser everytime. They also open and run like normal Android apps and they even appear on your Recents menu for easy app switching in Android Nougat.[poll id=”3″]
So, if you are eager to test and use Instant apps right now on your Android device running Marshmallow and above, you can do so by following the below steps.
You can check what version of Android you are currently running by going to Settings->About Phone and scroll till the end and your Android version name will be mentioned.
How To Setup & Use Instant Apps On Android Right Now
First, you have to update your Google Play Services to the latest version to get the Instant apps feature on your phone.
To do this, download the Latest Google Play Services APK file from the below link first.
Now you have to enable the option to allow your to install files from unknown sources to install the app.
Go to Settings->Security->Unknown Sources and enable it.
Once you have completed the above step, go to the APK file you downloaded and then open and install it.
Once the installation is complete, your Google Play Services will be updated to the latest version and the Instant apps feature will now be available.
Open your settings app and go to Google. You can find the Instant apps option there. Open the option and enable it to activate Instant apps on your phone.
Now you can access the Instant apps from your web search results. To do this, Go to Google and then Search for Buzzfeed or The Weather Channel. These are the Instant apps that I found, there are much more out there, you can find them from the below screenshot from Android Developers blog.
After searching the app, you can just open it from the search results and it will be automatically launched as an Instant app.
You can send this to your Homescreen as a shortcut for quicker access. To do this, select your browser menu from the top right and then choose the option, Add to HomeScreen
You can follow the similar procedure to use any Instant app and then add them to your Homescreen.
