Every smartphone manufacturer out there is trying to roll out Oreo update for their flagship smartphones by the end of 2017. While some of them have already done that, OnePlus is still sticking to its Oxygen OS based on 7.1.1 even for OnePlus 5T. Today, they have rolled out the first beta update to the Oreo 8.0 for the OnePlus 5 and here are our thoughts on how it performs and how to get it the OnePlus 5 Oreo 8.0 beta ROM on your OnePlus 5 device as well.

Since its just a beta update, that too being a beta 1, there might be some bugs, performance issues or thermal issues under heavy usage. If that’s fine and you want to contribute towards the betterment of the OnePlus community, or if you are just a geek who wants to play around, you can go ahead and do this update.

The Oreo 8.0 update to the OnePlus 5 brings the basic Oreo features that all the Oreo phones are supposed to have such as the Picture-in-Picture mode, notification dots, auto-fill, new emojis and much more. Along with these standard updates, it also brings few tricks with it like the parallel apps like announced in OnePlus 5T, new quick settings, more features to edit the icons and apps by long pressing ad much more.

How To Download and Update

Step 1: Download the OnePlus 5 Oreo 8.0 beta ROM to your phone (Download Here)
Step 2: Now reboot to your phone’s recovery. As suggested by OnePlus, it will be better if you use the stock recovery as the beta has not yet been tested for custom recovery.
Step 3: After going into recovery choose Install from internal storage >> Go to the location of the downloaded ROM >> select the ROM >> Select Update.
Step 4: Once the update is done, reboot the phone and now you are running the Oreo version of OnePlus 5.

Performance And Stability

We are yet to test it in tougher conditions. But our first impressions are so far pretty good. The OnePlus 5 Oreo8.0 beta update seems to be stable so far, with no hiccups or apps force close. Performance seems to be the almost same. We could not notice much difference. Let’s see how it holds up when tested under heavier conditions and if we notice something, we will keep you guys updated and also report in the OnePlus forum so that they can rectify it in the next update.
