Face ID. The one thing the world is enthusiastically talking about for the fast few weeks since the launch of the most anticipated iPhone X. However, what most people don’t realize that the Face ID technology has been there in Android for as long as there were quality front cameras.
But, the Face ID in iPhone X could only be used to unlock the device and as a identification to be used to pay for things. However, today I am going to write about an awesome Android app, which uses the same technology to unlock your Android apps and settings.
Much like the iPhone X, this app also uses sophisticated algorithms and advanced face biometric technologies. This means that it cannot be tricked to unlock by showing an image or video of yours as it analyses the depth of the image while scanning.

The app also learns over time and improves its recognition capability every time it scans your face. And did I mention you could also use your voice to unlock the apps on your Android phone using this app? Well, read on.
How To Use Face ID And Voice To Unlock Android Apps
First, download and install the AppLock Face/Voice Recognition from the Google Play Store.
Now, open the app and now you can either select a pre-defined unlock phrase provided by the app or create your own unlock phrase by clicking on the button below.
Once you have zeroed in on an unlock phrase scroll to the next screen and you can skip past the guidelines if you want. I am going to explain the steps in detail anyway.

Now, find a place that is well lit and quiet because you are now going to configure your Face ID and Voice for the first time.
Once you are ready, scroll to the next screen and give the app permission to use your camera and microphone to record your voice and your face.
Step 6: (Face ID Configuration)
Now place your face inside the grid show on your screen so that it aligns properly in the centre.
Step 7: ( Voice Configuration)
Once your face is successfully recognized and recorded, you have to know repeat the unlock phrase you previously selected for 3 times until the app recognizes it too.
After you have successfully finished the initial configuration process, proceed to the next step and select an alternate method of authentication. You can choose between a pattern, password or a pin.
This is to ensure that you can unlock at emergency situations when you are unable to use the Face ID or your voice.
Once you have selected your preferred method of alternate authentication, you have to now provide usage access permission to the app.
This is to allow the app to recognize when you are opening an app that has been locked using this app.

To do this, click the button at the bottom, select the Applock app from the list and then enable the ‘permit usage access’ option.
That’s it you have now successfully configured the app and you can now start using it to lock your apps and then unlock them using your Face ID or your voice.
Just select the apps you want to lock at the main tab and you are good to go.
The Applock app comes with two different methods of security levels, Convenience mode and Truly Secure mode. The first one requires you to only use either your Face ID or your voice to unlock your apps.

But, if you want increased security, then you can select the Truly Secure mode while you are locking your apps. This way, you will be required to provide both your Face ID and your voice to unlock the apps.
You can also enable the ‘Liveness Detection’ option from the advanced settings section from within the app. If this is activated, the app will only authenticate if it detects some live motion like blinking or head movements. This is to ensure that no one misuses your phone by unlocking the apps using a picture or a video of you.
